The Main Coon cat

The Main Coon finds its origin in America. There are many stories about the origin of this breed. A popular urban myth is that the Maine Coon would be a cross between a lynx and a raccoon. In reality, a very lovely Maine Coon cat which is fine to keep as pets.

History
The Maine Coon cat is the prototype of all ages in New England, Maine and surrounding states on the north coast of the United States. The Maine Coon is descended from some long-haired cats and cats that carried the gene for long hair. Long ago they were brought to America by colonists from Europe. In winter it was often very cold, and had a great advantage with long-haired cat fur.

Features
The Head: has high cheekbones, and often have a somewhat broad, strong chin.
Eyes: large, oval and slightly rounded.
Ears: the ears are set wide apart and she pointed to walk. Typically, the plumes from the inner ear to the outside.
Body: one of the largest cat breeds we know, especially the males tend to be large and muscular, with a broad chest. The legs are shorter, have heavy bones and large round feet which also often have hair tufts between the toes.
Tail: long, returned to the back should extend at least to the neck.
Coat: dense, thick, long coat, and often wear a collar. The structure of the coat depends on the color. In summer the fur is often a lot shorter than in winter, the bushy tail is always against them.
Colour of hair: the Maine Coon is found only in natural colors, black, cream, blue, brown, red, blue and cream, sometimes with white tabbytekening course, or a white undercoat.

Character
Main Coons are nice, sweet and cheerful animals. Normally they go well with other pets and if the introduction has taken place as a kitten, with dogs will go well together. Usually happy cuddled and caressed, and like to be brushed occasionally.

The care
The long fur is the self-cleaning and usually leaves with an occasional brush in excellent condition. Brush must not be too hard, this can damage the coat. In spring and summer, the coat moult. The bushy tail is always there.
